In this article, we would like to throw light on few aspects that can only be understood with time and usage of the vaccine; till then, we all need to follow the precautionary measures.

Covid-19 Vaccines are ready, but does that mean we are safe, free to move around like before. This article will talk about the efficacy of the vaccines and understand why we need to follow the safety guidelines even after getting vaccinated.

Let’s understand the success ratio of the upcoming COVID-19 vaccines

COVID-19 Vaccines

If there is anything on earth that every human being is waiting for, it is the vaccine for Covid-19. The virus came unannounced; it came without a history and left the common man and even the experts clueless about how to deal with it. Medical science had never been so challenged as it was during the initial months of Covid-19. However, the good news is that three vaccine manufacturers have announced the arrival of the Covid vaccine.

Even after manufacturing the vaccines, why are we still assessing the efficacy levels of these vaccines in the real-world? These questions probably answer all our excitement, we might be happy about the vaccine reaching us, but we cannot be 100% sure about their effectiveness. There are 100’s parameters that can only be measured once the vaccine is used in a real-world scenario. Through this article, we would like to throw light on few aspects that can only be understood with time and usage of the vaccine; till then, we all need to stay safe and keep following the precautionary measures.

With infection rates reaching new records, will these vaccines prove to be a savior? Pfizer, Moderna, and AstraZeneca have offered satisfactory results based on their clinical trials. While the news is welcoming, be cannot deny that none of these vaccines claims 100% results.

At this point, it would be quite unfair to say which one is better, but let’s understand the efficacy levels claimed by the three vaccine manufacturers.

  • Pfizer has claimed that their vaccine’s efficacy is 90%, based on the test performed on mRNA-based vaccine candidate BNT162b2.
  • Moderna claimed that their efficacy levels are 94.5% for it, mRNA vaccine candidate.
  • AstraZeneca mentioned their vaccine efficacy to be up to 90%.

All these percentages are quite impressive, but you must know that these vaccines are not magic pills. They come with certain preliminary rules and, the theory of trial and error cannot be negated. It might take another year before we again start walking free without the safety kit.

Here are a few reasons why we must still maintain our guard, remain indoors, and follow the safety measures.

  1. Will It Come Back?

We all know that vaccine efficacy is based on clinical trials conducted on several volunteers. There were two groups of volunteers; the first group was given the vaccine, and the group was given a placebo. Now each group will be observed for months and tested periodically to test the presence of infection. After several trials, the efficacy will be determined. Also, we know that every individual reacts differently to medicines. Thus, only with time, we would know which vaccine is the most effective against Covid.

  1. How Long Will It Protect?

If a vaccine claims to protect you for three weeks, then can we say we are completely protected. A half-year period can still be considered effective, but getting vaccinated after 3 weeks for even 2 months, can be an expensive and tedious affair.

  1. Is It Made For All Climates?

We live in a diverse climatic world, where one part of the country is covered in snowfall in winters, while the other part experiences rainfall. So, if the trial is conducted during early summer, will it be effective even in lower temperatures. These are questions that the trials have still not answered.

  1. How Will The Effectiveness Be Determined?

We all know that the symptoms of Covid were not similar in every individual; almost 70% of patients were asymptomatic or showing very mild symptoms, whereas a small percentage suffered from respiratory issues, resulting in sudden death. Thus, with such a diverse response to the virus, how will one determine what amount of vaccine would suit an individual. Further, the effectiveness of the virus would also remain an unsolved theory.

The Bottom line:

The pandemic has a lot of mysteries, while the World Health Organisation and the health experts across the globe are doing their best in bringing the vaccines and giving back people their right to live freely. We must not act stupid; we must understand that Covid-19 was a virus most unheard of; it took months to know where it came from, and thus, only time would prove the efficacy of the upcoming vaccines. The vaccines are undoubtedly a savior, but none of them come with a green flag stating that they will make your Corona-Proof forever. Thus, let’s keep ourselves updated, follow the safety guidelines, and keep the elderly in your family at home – happy and safe.
