Countries such as the USA, Brazil, Spain, etc. are the worst recipients of it. With the 4th largest hit country by Coronavirus, India, too, is facing a significant issue with the increase in several patients. In these rough times, we all could use some good news.

We all know the symptoms of Covid-19 and often get the idea when we are exposed to it. Keeping that in mind, an oral antiviral drug favipiravir has been discovered by doctors to cure patients who are having mild to moderate symptoms.

Below are the details:

Manufacturing

A company named Glenmark Pharma will be manufacturing this drug in a site located near Himachal Pradesh called Baddi. This drug has a high production capacity and is capable of distributing it in different states. Sujesh Vasudevan, President India Formulations, Middle East, and Africa, Glenmark Pharmaceuticals recently in his talk said that they will actively be manufacturing this drug and can make available to different states in the upcoming week. Companies such as Optimus pharmaceuticals and Brinton pharmaceuticals are also actively helping and have started exporting the drugs commercially.

The manufacturing of ingredients of this drug has already been started in the Baddi facility located near Himachal Pradesh. The production rate of this facility is still unknown, but it has been made sure that other states could expect the availability of this drug in the upcoming week. This drug is already available in Bangladesh and is also approved in countries like the UAE and Thailand.

Price

The drug under the brand name Fabiflu will be priced at Rs. 103 per tablet. This price is the initial price at which it will be available in retail shops all over the country. Several companies such as Optimus and Brinton pharmaceuticals are also active participants in making the drug reach every district, and the prices are expected to lower down in the coming future.

Usage

This drug will be prescribed to only those patients who are showing mild to moderate symptoms. The drug has the potential to improve patient’s health with symptoms such as high fever, rough cold, loss of taste and smell, and loss of appetite, which are few of the early symptoms easily visible.
